    Some ranty before substantial stuff.

    Copyright:

Its copyrighted by not to. And by the way, you trademark a slogan or somesuch, not copyright it.

    Metro:

What the fuck? Cant we have busses on time these days? Can we even have the right kind of busses, like where the hell do you get the idea that a 40 foot metro bus is okay to use on a route that packs a 60 foot Sound Transit bus? Can we have our bus passes mailed to us on time, not a week after the 1st... get with the program.

So, some of you may have heard that LiveJournal is going to implement a system of censorship to "protect the children" or somesuch bullshit.

And people wonder why I don't post here that often? It just seems like Six Apart is spending all of its time lately trying to kill off LiveJournal in favor of its "Premium" services. From violating their original social contract and including ads to having an inconsistent abuse team, they don't seem to realize that those people that they are screwing over are their customers, I certainly am.

In this day in age where someone can get fired for a blog post (I should know, it happened to me), and the blog hosters are going out of their way to suppress free expression, what ever happened to an open and unimpeded forum? Do we really need everyone scrutinizing our every move? Why the fuck does the FBI need to read my email? When will I have to fill out daily activity reports? When will this shit stop?

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
    The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
    I know of no reason
    Why Gunpowder Treason
    Should ever be forgot.

So, news for the last week or so:

Managed to get a TV Wonder 650 at Re-PC for $2.95, this is a HDTV card and rund something like $100 these days.

Managed to get a PoE injector for one of the Cisco phones, considering trying to setup Asterisk.

Fixed the DVD burner, apparently being on the same bus with a DVD drive was adversely affecting the transfer rates and making a DVD burn in 30 minutes rather than 5.

Modified a Nite-Ize case to hold my shears (Klein 2100-7) and multi screwdriver (Klein 32477), yay.

    Massive OT at work.

Got a shelf for the rack for cheap, nearly killed my arm getting it home.

Note: rack pictures will be forthcoming, as soon as I finish some stuff on it.

    My latest acquisition at Re-PC:

Its a Nokia IP330 "firewall" but without a hard drive.

So I stuck a 32MB flash ATA drive in it with M0n0wall, it works, but reboots every once and a while on a watchdog timer timeout.

So, I got the IBM displays working.

IBM had made these units with a DFP connector, but some units actually are analog units and the DFP connector is wired differently for analog use. So I took apart a DFP cable and used the connectors to make a couple of cables for the displays, one shown here was a test of the pinout I had obtained from a British car computer forum and the other was a finished cable based on that pinout.

The units are Type 4820 Model 46D (4820-46D) and are intended for a SurePOS cash register. These units have a keylock and thats it. Other units include options like a keypad, card swipe, touchscreen, etc.

    Pictures... )

    Recent pet peeves:

    * Drivers who fail to heed pedestrians right of way.
    * Animations in email, especially since it makes the email unreadable in my email client.
    * Useless progress bars in software.
    * Arbitrary limitations. Job posting software seems prone to this.

So, now everything is unplugged, I only have the ThinkPad, a WRT and the DSL modem plugged in. As some of you may know, Im going to be getting a rack this weekend, as to consolidate the computer stuffs in a easy to manage package so I dont have to keep dealing with borked stuff.

Speaking of borked stuff, one of the power strips was indicating surge protection failure, thankfully it was the one that was failing anyhow.

Theres enough dust in the machines to kill a small mammal, or it might have been a small mammal... hmm...

The reconfiguration will make the space seem a bit smaller, but will allow me to watch movies on the projection screen from the bed, yay for that.

See y'all soon with pics and stuffs.

    Edit:
Oh, and Windows' driver for the HP LaserJet 5N kinda sucks arse. The printer is perfectly capable of printing custom sizes, but the driver kinda sucks. It wont print custom sizes... needless to say, Im getting a PostScript SIMM and moving to Adobe's PostScript driver.

So, I was waling by the Chipotle resteraunt on University Way a few days, and thought to myself, "I wont be eating in there anytime soon" ... bad memories.

So, today I got a coupon in the mail...

From Chipotle... for a free burrito...

    Life is ironic.

    SCO Group Looses Copyright Case

Thats it, game over, what started in 2003 has now ended. Judge Dale Kimball issued a 102 page ruling that grants summary judgment: Novell owns the Unix and UnixWare copyrights. Linux, IRIX, and AIX users can now breath easier.

SCOX has been stable in after hours trading only loosing 1 cent, down from $1.56 per share at market close.
NOVL was up 33 cents (5.42%) closing at 6.42 and has risen 22 cents (3.43%) in after hours trading.
