TNSC Art Contest - Predator and Prey Scenes
The winner of October's Art Contest Theme - Cute Couples is:
We both haz one now - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2922859/
    By Mix Tags - http://www.furaffinity.net/user/mixtags/

    November's Art Contest has begun!!

    The Theme is:
Predator and Prey Scenes - Submit anything pertaining to predators and their prey species.

The Deadlines for November's Art Contest are:
    Submission Deadline: December 1, 2009
    Voting Deadline: December 10, 2009

There has also been a modification to the rules for the TNSC Art Contest.
The modification allows anyone to submit any artwork, created either by them, or by anyone else.

The entry form allows users submitting artwork that is not theirs to identify themselves so the artists, and everyone else knows who submitted the art to the contest.  The original artists of all art submitted to the contest will retain the full copyright and all rights to their work, regardless of who submits it to the contest.

We made this modification, and updated the year on the dates (apparently the site still thought it was 2008, when it is 2009), in attempt to get more entries into the contests.  This can make the contests much more interesting.

Here are the full contest rules:
1a. The art or image can be of anything related to the theme, there are no other requirements.
1b. Any form of art is allowed, including written art and drawings.
2a. Anyone can submit anything related to the theme (even if drawn before the start of the current theme).
2b.Anyone can submit/nominate any artwork, even if drawn by someone else. (Original Artist retains full copyright and all rights to their work.)
    3. Users must be 18 to view/submit adult entries.
    4. If you see anything in parenthesis (these) in the theme, it is only a personal preference and is not required.
    5. Users may also nominate artwork made by other artists using the submit link above.

Winning submissions receive worldwide praise on the TNSC Community News and a spot on our Winners Page.  Winning submissions also receive a spot on the TNSC main page for up to 5 months.

Let's get November's submissions in at the TNSC website at tnsc.ath.cx

Hey everyone, I just got back from the symphony where thanks to some excellent ticket-wrangling and a very large group sale I got to sit in the orchestra rows up front.

As this was the cultural event of the season, I made sure to don my finest fancy hat for the occasion. What kind of savage doesn't class it up a notch for the symphony?

P.S. Buy our quality Chinese Product.
I have a problem with these ads.

Not with the actual ad itself... the ad itself is fine. And it doesn't matter that it's in borderline taste to be quoting anti-capitalist poets to very clearly push a message. No, it's 2009 and we've established that's an okay line to cross (thanks to Coca Cola, Apple, United Colors of Bennetton, and Johnnie Walker.) I don't have a problem that it apparently rips off a campaign for a competing company that was recently launched as well. Hell, I don't even have a problem with not mentioning the product once in the entire ad (again, thank you aforementioned companies.)

No, the problem is that you have 29 seconds of footage that gets people to put their foot down on some message and it turns out to be a metaphorical pile of dog shit- some stupid cheap ass branding campaign for some stupid cheap-ass Chinese blue jeans from a company using a U.S. brand to hawk slave-labor goods.

Levis could have even pulled this off IF they had:

    1) Launched this campaign before shutting down all U.S. production.

    2) Launched this after September 11th, when pro-US fervor was fashionable.

    3) Maintained something resembling quality in their product line.

    4) Not slapped their logo up at the very end AND putting up a 'feature subdirectory' below it for the web site address. (our flavor this month is 'America!')

    5) Not used some pretentious shitty slogan to associate with the entire campaign.

But they didn't. Big problem with that- because when you go 'edgy' you have to possess a knowledge of the context of which you're operating. And because none of the retards who came up with it did/do, this ad sort of turns into something I'd expect to see if I were living in China and the government was trying to inspire me- it all feels like a bunch of crap. You're hard pressed to find a less American product than Levi's Jeans.

Although I'd likely blame Levis for this stupidity, the truth of the matter is they probably went to some high-end advertising agency ( you know, one with a "plus sign" in their name ) and said "Look, our sales are sucking, help us out." These douchebags likely said "No problem, we'll get some aspiring photographer to rip off Michel Gondry and make it as edgy as possible!! Levis is American, right? Perfect!"

    ---

As an aside, this is a screen shot of the horrendous mess that is the Wieden + Kennedy web site:

I come to this site and it reads to me as a giant "fuck you."
    Which is oddly fitting.

I'd really like to start painting my model kits via air-brush technology
So the boyfriend and I went to a militaria show yesterday and nabbed a few things. He managed to get a bunch of patches as well as a couple of medals - one of which was an old Legion of Merit medal...wow!

I nabbed a bunch of model kits. I'd have liked to have acquired more - but I can't buy them as cheap at these shows as I can at swap meets or thrift stores..so I had to try to keep from buying every single model kit in the place.

I've noticed that a lot of the more advanced paint jobs on model kits employ the use of air brushes..which require a working air compressor. I'd like to get in on this - but what I don't want to do is buy one of the cheaper 'hobby' designated air brush heads that are supposedly made with the hobbyist in mind. I have my eye on the Tamiya spray-work HG super fine airbrush, which is a commercial/professional grade level. It has really great reviews for use on model kits too. There's also the issue of an air compressor. Something along the lines of a Iwata-Madea Smart Jet Air Compressor IS850 - though this is even more expensive then the super fine airbrush...gosh! I suppose I can poke around for a cheaper air compressor..but again, I'm one of those firm believers that with some areas in technology - you get what you pay for..and two important parts to air brushing is being able to have a nozzle that can do fine/high quality work and a compressor that can supply the needed amount of air to disperse the paint properly.

I just don't see myself being able to paint my kits with this kind of set-up for some time. I'd be looking at anywhere from a 200-300 price tag. Would anyone out there be able to recommend a really good and reliable air compressor for around $125 or less? I guess it's good to have goals though. If I can find a job that pays similiar to my former job - I'd be able to afford this no problem. Problem is - there is a serious lack of jobs out here. Drat..

Anyhoo, click below to see pictures of the model kits I acquired. I can't wait to have these all finished - but I have a feeling I will hold off on a number of them until I can get some better equipment to paint with.

    C'est la vie.

Like a bobcat... hey! Meowing for the very first time!
The process has finally run its course. As the previous entries are filled with things I have not yet reviewed and thus re-solved within myself, I am just going to let my fingers speak for me right now. I have been living on my own for just over a couple weeks and since having done so have found everything starting to come together. I am beginning to understand what has been going on in my life and, in the process, what is going on on this planet.

I don't feel comfortable giving out too much information yet... I have one more journey to make, but soon I think I can share.

I just wanted to let anyone who was watching to know that I am doing fine and that I have finally found my voice. I am in the process of finding my own form of expression and for those who have wanted to reconnect with me, I think that time is very soon to arrive.

Btw, for all those who have taken part in my process of becoming, I want to thank you.

Among those (in no particular order),

    Synge the water dragon
    Four-Eyes the wolf
    Obonic the pine marten
    Chronos the coyote
    Stacy the ocelot

The rest I will fill in as time passes. Oh yea... I have found time is an illusion... lunch time, doubly so.

Also, if you want to get a sens eof what is going on in the world, give South Park a looksee. Laughter is the best medicine and sacred clowns are around us showing us a way through this illusion.

Ultimately, though, like the dolphins, life is not to be taken too siriusly. There is much wisdom to be found in the oceans. In particular, I recommend an episode called "Whale Whores". The latest epsidoe is good for exposing just how unhealthy it can be to put too much emphasis on the definitions of others. I think that is what kept me trapped for too long. Once I let go of those and found my own definitions (mainly by deciding to just listen to what is around me especially teh wisdom of my own body), everything started falling into place.

As one wise person put it, "change comes from within". Focusing on the outside can be a distraction and I could say that that was part of what was trapping me.

Again, for all those who took part in my life, regardless of the degree, I want to thank you. *hugs*

*shakes his head at the wonderment of the adventure that is being, with a smile*

Keep an eye out on things... it's going to become very intersting. Those who have been wanting chagne for a long time... I think you're about to get your wish.

    Xao (among many other names)

Clearing my head in the desert
The joke goes "Where am I going ? And what am I doing in a handbasket ?"

Its been one surreal hell of a week!

    Starting brain dump....

    Where am I REALLY ?

Im just outside Calexico on the Calif Mexico border.

    HUH ? WTH ?
Set the way back machine, Sherman to last week.

As of last weekend, I was in one hell of a bind.
The bank account ran out, storage was in default and I was worth more dead than alive.

I had a nice time at Halloween at the Grand Central Starport. It was a break from the panic that was my life. It was good to see the Mandelbear & Flowercat. Steve, Colleen, Emmy & Chaos were exactly what I needed. I desperately needed people. Chaoswolf even phoned. Eventually Jilara popped by after doing her "Haunted Bayou" thing at her place.

Figmo gave me some help in my jobsearch. BIG help. Incredible huge big help. I gave up on careerbuilder.com long ago. She said to try it again. She gave me other good advice. It paid off.

Sunday was nice. In the morning, Dad & I went over to Salem Lutheran to visit Mom. I didnt get jobsearch work done, because dad & I were working the Berkeley Community Theatre pipe organ concert. We had 1 guy playing the largest Wurlitzer pipe organ on the west coast and his buddy on the 9ft grand piano. This was not some boring church organ concert. Just before the intermission we had a treat. The pianist excused himself from stage and let the organist do a solo. The next selection after that solo was a scottish tune and the audience was taken by surprise when the pianist reappeared in the rear of the house in full highland regalia and a 100yr old set of bagpipes. Then after that they went into Scotland the Brave as they rode the orchestra pit elevator from stage level all the way down.

After the concert, we broke down the CD & sheet music shop in the lobby and had guided tours up into the chambers and the catwalks of the theatre. Finally we took the artists out to dinner at Cafe Venezia in Berkeley as usual. I got home late and exhausted.

Monday, I applied Lynne's (Figmo) help to my job search.

Meanwhile, the US economy has started to move. Job loss is slowing, change is out on the horizon. The Dow is flirting with 10k. The Dow is really no longer a good predictor. The S&P 500 or maybe 1000 would be better, but we are conditioned to look at the Dow. All that zero interest money the banks can borrow from the FED (these are loans not bailouts) the banks are using on the stock market and thats why the Dow is going up but so is unemployment.

We got another rough year, but it looks like weve seen the bottom. If things arent looking much better by late summer 2010, Obama will find hiimself with both houses back in Republican hands.
I dont think hes gonna let that happen. People who want to pillory him forget that this is not his creation. He just got left "holding the bag". It feels weird being an Obama Republican, by the way.

He really need to trust the American people with the truth. Bring back FDRs "Fireside Chat". Perhaps a "Back Porch Chat". I really think that if he sat down and tole the American people what the hell is REALLY going on, he just might bolster his numbers.

Many companies took advantage of the recession to reduce headcount and soon there will be presure to take some of this presure off. With the recent news that weve officially started recovery, temp agencies are seeing activity. This is the start. And some staffs will demand that management at least bring in temp staff. Like recovery from the dot-bomb, entire staffs will threaten to take their chances in the growing temp workforce unless management brings in additional headcount. The threat of losing a whole dept is very scary to employers, I dont care how heartless the bastards.

I have been extremely disappointed in the American people. They should have stormed wall street months ago "with shovels and rakes and pitchforks and other implements of dee-struction". I was heartened to see the banking convention protested.

I come from a family of "Orange County Bankers". These guys are not "neocons", they are REAL Republicans. The dirty secret is that the republican system without regulation is called "anarchy" and that is not good for business. Regulation of business can be a pain, but it also damps out radical swings that can kill entire sectors.

The IT sector has been improving faster than others because there are tax issues regarding keeping equipment past 37 months. Everyone seems to listen to CISCO and they are saying things are taking off. INTEL says the same. Doesnt matter if its true. What matters is that people believe it and people feeling like its improve will make it improve.

Even retail is expecting a small upturn.

As I said, just when you are up against the wall, sometimes the cavalry arrives.

I ran the numbers and figured out none of my storage gets auctioned until Dec, so I still have a teeny bit of breathing room.

Between the recent recovery in the news, and Figmos advoice, things started to happen Monday night.
Monday night, Mom was in better shape than usual. She was standing upright for once.

Tuesday, the phone rang and rang and rang. The phone got more use on Tuesday than it has in the last month and a half. Tuesday night, it happened, just before leaving to go see Mom.

"Im looking for an AIX admin who has Tivoli Storage Experience, Are you available ?"

"Sure. Im available and Id love to start tomorrow" (I was getting kinda cheeky)

    "Well we need you yesterday"

and thats how it started. They wanted me in Imperial County the next day but I didnt have my ducks in a row. I was holding out for a starting date of next Monday. Wednesday was a blurr. Thursday morning, I told them I could do it.

Wednesday night, Dad had gont to the "loo" (I LOVE that term dont you ?) I was walking with Mom down the hall, and mentioned that I was about to go on an out of town project and I wouldnt be by to visit for a while. Mom suddenly looked up at me. I think she actually understood.

If true, THAT is a scary thought. Pondering this for my LJ post this morning, I had an epiphany that I will be posting about later.

Im playing with fire here. Im outta town. Moms best friend (my "Auntie Norma") is psychically gifted. Shes in a hurry to visit Mom. I dont like the math. Im prepared in case, but it makes me nervous.

SO, I boarded a plane in Oakland to San Diego. Ive rented a u-haul truck but never a car. It was amazingly easy. While the bank accounts are wiped, it turns out my COSTCO account I opened with my DAD is actually an AM EX, so that was available for me. While I didnt have a reservation for a car, they did have mini vans & compacts. I wasnt looking for a luxury car anyway. They put me in a black Ford Focus with TOO many gadgets.

I missed a turn getting out of the airport and got lost but managed to take a guess and dead reconed to get onto I-5 north and then again lost on a poorly marked detour for the move to I-8 east. Again, I managed to take a few guesses and got enroute. I saw trucks and lots of border patrol vehicles out there.

It was cooling as it was late at night. I set cruise control and headed east. I didnt know I was going over mountains. Eventually the temp started dropping a degree every few minutes. I spotted an altitude sign that proclaimed 4100ft and encountered light rain. I stopped at the rest stop at Bradshaw Springs and nearly froze gettin out of the car. Further along, I was finally so sleepy I pulled in at a brake check area and took a 2 hr nap. When I woke, the pavement was dry and the rain had stopped. Then I found out why the brak check area was there. It was at the top of a 10 mils 7% grade (very steep).

I got into the hotel around quarter to 4, lost an hour trying to get the laptop online. I overslept and got up at 7:30. Managed to dress, hit the breakfast buffet and head out to the jobsite. The local irrigation district has a large upgrade going on and they needed some extra manpower to help out. The district does more than irrigation. They do power and water. They even have a geothermal plant running down here.

My spanish might be better than I thought. They dont know I understand spanish yet. (hehehe)

    Anyway, its a couple weeks.

After work, I popped over to Yuma AZ for the radio club meeting to surprise someone who didnt know I was down here. It was hilarious to see the look on Ti-Michelles face when I got there. The trip back included both an agricultural inspection and an immigration check point. I was coming back late enough there was no line for either one.

Alas, my passport expired in Sept and I cant afford to renew, so I had to decline the invitation to go down to the Tecate plant. Ill get it renewed soon but it wont be in time.

This is a longer post than expected.

This sudden relief has been amazing. I dont know how much Ive had perking on the back burner and were to freaked out to deal with, and how much Ive been able to think about out here in the desert. It was 86 at noon, yesterday. I did lunch at Costco and tried out the moon roof. By the way, I havent run the air conditioning yet.

Its peaceful and warm. I can think. Uh, oh, thinking is a dangerous thing....
More on that in another post. Another epiphany hit this morning.

Now, I think lunch and a swim.

    some weekend
heh... i dont really use LJ hardly at all anymore, easier to follow me on twitter if interested

    @sunshinefox

but this needed a bit more space, and that should say something in and of itself

so i was randomly contacted on short notice about a LAN party (as a bday thing) with old semi-friends/family i hadnt seen in a few years... now honestly ive been jobless for over a month now, lost my apt, and have moved back with my parents for the time being... and a variety of other shiity events and things that doesnt need to be said... but the point of saying so, is that this was supposed to be a weekend to kick back and enjoy some gaming time with cool people and just have FUN... and for most of the night things were awesome and cool...

    however

no one bothers to let me know or say anything about that there is no food provided or to have money or whatever... and then people randomly start packing up to go out to a fancy chinese place for lunch and i get left alone just sitting here... i mean honestly, sure im not all that hungry, but there is no sympathy or apologies... just "hey were heading out, we will be back later" and im sitting here wondering wtf gee thanks i told people i didnt have money for expensive stuff, so now im here by myself just feeling annoyed agitated and left out...

havent slept all night either from the gaming... so probly will just pass out soon from exhaustion... but yeah... if i hadnt been trying to save gas and ride up with someone else, id be packed up and gone home as well...

    Early autumn.

    3) What are your favourite foods to eat when you need to warm up and cool down?
Curry and butter pecan ice cream.

    4) Which one are you more likely to suffer from- hayfever or flu- and does it run in your family?

Back from Delaware and more packing
Wednesday was the day Lowe's delivered the washing machine. It's a big front-loader. Perhaps a little cramped at the back of the house -- the washer door opens up a bit into the kitchen -- but that'll do. All the dirty laundry was at the house so we ran two loads right away and hung the laundry up on an indoor clothes line in the 3rd bedroom. (which will probably become a storeroom) Did a lot of yardwork while waiting for the laundry to be done. Mostly raked leaves and pulled weeds. There wasn't much of a lawn yet to mow in the backyard.

Traveled back to North Jersey on Thursday. It was a rainy day but there wasn't any rain around Bordentown so I did 4 geocaches, all near US-130: IN A JIF, LINK 2, Lickety Split, Creepy Crawler. Hit some bad traffic on US-1 and the Parkway but I think it's normal for rush hour traffic. Nearly had an accident because someone cut out from a gas station right into my lane with very little room to spare.

Did a lot more packing on Friday. Also got rid of a lot of books, mostly computer books about obsolete software and hardware. While we were carrying those books out, a neighbor came to inquire about our activity. Apparently, she wanted to move to my apartment because it is bigger. Funny. I wasn't even aware there was rental demand for a place like this that is falling apart. Informed her that she may have to wait a month or two for the landlord to do a complete renovation because I've stayed here for 14 years and not much maintenance ever gets done in this apartment complex. (one of the reasons I'm moving out)

This week has been a terrible week for the teddybear, production-wise.  It's a classic case of two steps forward, one-and-a-half steps back.  I find the progression of my work to be painfully slow, despite the final results actually coming out really nice.  While the confidence in the quality of my work is strong, the amount of time it's taking puts a damper on it.

Today was the straw that broke the bear's back.  I am literally minutes away from completing an old order, a gorgeous cherry high chair that was due in July.  But for some simple hardware, which is out of stock at Rockler, I'd be done with it, and can move on.  This is an example of an outside force I cannot overcome or substitute.  The current line of high chairs is still relatively new for me, with a learning curve that's slowly leveling off, but I find myself still studying each procedure before I commence.  Two days ago I spent half a shift assembling the front legs with a footrest, because it had to be perfect.

Then there is an oak crib going to Cali.  I got what I thought was a head start on it back in July.  Instead, I went off half-cocked without any drawings, or even looking at the written order *headdesk*.  Every part I had cut and made was wrong, and I've spent the last two weeks re-cutting or re-making all of them.  Sometimes, freeform furniture making works IF there are no rules or special requests.  But there was one special request I did not account for in my initial build.  In my defense, I am adding a whole bunch of artistic flair to make this another one of my showcase pieces.  Still, it's taking longer than it should.

Despite what might seem like an emo post above, my newfound emotional security allows the confidence to overshadow all of this.  I am truly feeling good about what's coming out, even if it is a little (okay a lot) on the slow side.  What this means is I can send pieces out NOT feeling like I have to apologize for them.

Here's to hoping the quality part is a trend, while I work on speeding up the process.

Monks can be played in a handful of D10 and D20 board games and often have the non-combative roles of informants, spies, scouts, and healers. Sometimes, they're given long range combat roles like archers, pikesmen, and poisoners.
Henry (or Henriech) was neither combative nor non-combative.
Henry was a Dominican monk who lived from the middle of the 15th century to the second decade of the 16th.
Some say he was a dick, and they're all probably right.
Some also say that when he wrote the Hammer of Witches, the world was a better place.

I got up and started pacing like I usually do.
How many people died because society needed adversaries to legitimize their views?
Never before had a religion wanted to do everything at once. Christ died and a million voices rang out to take heed.
Henry Institorus felt Christ died to soothe a painful disharmony sanctioned by the guilt of first sin and its individualistic quests into self destruction.
Self destruction, and it's labelling of such, suggests we care about what others do with their lives.
Social order once promised an economic and cultural harmony that bred psychologically necessary regional identity.
Going to video game arcades and watching a friend swallow bottle caps for $2 in 1992 happened in a place where a microcosm flourished. Culture that bred its own monetary system (in quarters) dialect (also known as "slang" words to the un-imaginitive) and clothing (while denim was popular elswhere, canvas and cotton were popular in the game cave).
Like pilgrims visiting a shrine in adulation,
We believed in the presence of secret moves and codes in fighting games and saught out gurus who knew only a portion of the secrets. No one really thought it was possible to know all of the obfuscated wisdom than the 100+ games posessed. Jesus, Mohammed, Abraham, and were only invoked when something went awry, and even then, no one expected that these frusterated incantations would do much.
Henry Institoris helped "secular" magistrates and prosecutors with his manual on selecting the the qualifications necessary to deem a diablarist worthy of death. Ordinary things like curses, disease, orgies, and lewdness. But also weird things such as Disapearing Penises, Doll making from the hair of Victims, phantom leperosy, incubus rapings, levitating cancer, and Dog enchantment.

    Whom among us enchants Dogs?
I want to know who you've been talking to.
We should go play street fighter 2 in Black Dominican monks robes and drink Frangellico until the morning.

Excerpts from a Cat’s Daily Diary:

    Day 983 of my captivity…
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a ‘good little hunter’ I am. Bastards.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of ‘allergies.’ I must learn what
this means and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow — but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released – and seems to be more than willing to return. He is
    obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell,
    so he is safe.

    For now…

Transcript of the July 27, 2009 SCO Bankruptcy Hearing - Updated - as text
Finally, the transcript [PDF; 1.5MB] of the marathon July 27, 2009 SCO bankruptcy hearing is available to the public.

This was the longest hearing in the history of the SCO Litigation Follies, 527 pages long. It continued until 10 o'clock at night, with Darl McBride testifying. In fact, it's his swan song as CEO. And it's the one where SCO was fighting to avoid Chapter 7, which it did, but also against the appointment of a Chapter 11 Trustee, where it failed.

Update 2: For those of you on dialup, ausage has been kind enough to divide it into parts:

    • Part 1 - Opening Statements
    • Part 2 - Testimony of Ryan Tibbitts
    • Part 3 - Testimony of Ken Nielsen
    • Part 4 - Testimony of Darl McBride on Direct Examination
    • Part 5 - Testimony of Darl McBride on Cross Examination
    • Part 6 - Testimony of Darl McBride on Redirect Examination
    • Part 7 - Testimony of Stephen Norris
    • Part 8 - Testimony of Jeff Hunsaker
    • Part 9 - Statements by LNS and Oracle
    • Part 10 - Closing Statements
Isn't it great to have it divided so logically and usefully? He's even color-coded the various speakers. Erwan has done it for us as one complete transcript, so click to read the full transcript. Click on ausage's links instead, if length is an issue for you. Thank you both very much. Enjoy!
