Subject: Tiger.furnet.org delink
Date: Mon, 29 Mar 2004 09:08:28 -0800 (PST)
On Sunday, March 26th, myself and Tiger's two primary operators (Yappy and
Frysco) reached a decision to delink Tiger from the FurNet network.
Effective immediately, tiger will sever all links to FurNet and operate as
an independent server. What, if any, links Tiger will make with other
servers in the future has yet to be determined. The Tiger/Jaguar pair will
continue to operate the services code and database during the transition.
Copies of the services code and database will be made available to the
remaining FurNet administration. I will run a copy of services connecting
into their network until such time as they can establish their own copy, if
they so choose, and will similarly continue to host the mailing lists until
such time as they can set up the appropriate infrastructure. The domain
"irc.furnet.org" will be delegated to their DNS infrastructure, and will
remain delegated to them as long as they continue use of the name space. I
have removed myself from the administration mailing list as well as the
moderation list for the users mailing list.
This decision was not reached easily or without significant consideration.
It is our opinion that the operational nature of the FurNet network is no
longer in line with our goals when we worked to assist in founding the
network, and we no longer wish to participate in its operation. We wish
the remaining administrators the best of luck in the future of FurNet, and
thank the users of Tiger for their support over the years.
